FreedoM frOm MenTaL TorTUe !!!!

Yipee...

Oh well... this weeek is back to report week and of course to do the chinese Presentation slides which i would have to present a topic infront of the class, i chosen the CHina Culture wan, juz hope wun stagger tt day ! haha .. since more assignments are completed, it's turn to get back to the enjoyable days and spend the remaining 17 days in shanghai meaningfully ! Shopping, eating and Exploring are the main tasks !

About the Huangshan trip, suppossed to be on the 9th , but i got this bad institution tt this time round wun b able to make it for the trip, either because the organiser cant make it in time or i might wanna go to suzhou instead ! GettIng My HandS FuLL of LAbwork...

Yeah...Finally got the chance to have hands-on experience in Lab. Been pinning for it since i arrived in this new company. Finally, can exercise my hands and brainjuice ...

Started my lab journey yesterday...though the labwork is rather similar to tt over at NTU , the main difference is tt i got the chance to try out from the scratch , not spoon-feeding ... Can realli operate those machinese with my own hands and concoct those solutions too ~~~ great feeling sia, realli unlike in Singapore where everything is being done nicely and placed in front of u, juz need a little more easy steps and it's already considered u have done the lab experiment. Well.. it's a new experience.

Been trying to analysis the COD content in various water samples and of course , TP,TN,DO,TSS etc . Cool rite ... haha but the "professorR" who is teaching us how to do the stuffs always screw things up ... and there is this realli CMI situation in lab - the chemicals , equipments are all not prepared in front of u, as in u gotta move ard looking for chemicals , moving to other room to do analysis cos the equipments are all spread out in diff levels of the building. Sianz ~~~ tt's the only thing i dislike.

Well... lately been busy draining brainjuice in doing IA report and 2 3000 cheena essays which are due in 2 weeks time. Hope to complete them asap ... perharps by next weeeeek ?? so tt i can enjoy the rest of the weeks in shanghai in my own world. haha ...

lately, discovered nice songs from chris daughtry (what i want, over you) , john mayer (gravity) and five for fighting (world) ... well..recommended ! Should dl and try listen to them ... they make my day =)

Hurray ... officially countdown - another 1 month (ie. 30 days) before i can return to my paradise !!!

gr3At and Yet misEraBle WeeKeNd...

Todae is sunday - which means that it spells the week has again past by without me noticing much.
As usual, Fri and Sat is the study days .. but this week spelled miserable for SHJTU students cos both days are full day lesson cos of the make-up lessons. Imagine from 8.30am - 4.30pm of lectures ??? Almost dropped dead in class .. but dun have the habit to sleep in class , so perserved till the end. On sat, Pauline suddenly suggested in gng KTV from 12mid-6am. Since both me n roomie had no objections , we agreed to join in. The attendace din turned out to be great - only 5 ppl went , Pauline , Yekai , Zhizhong and us ! But the overall singing experience was enjoyable.

We went to Hao Le Di at Big Thumb Plaza near our house . It's the usual spot for NTU students. As most small rooms are occupied, we took the middle room at the rate of 210 rmb from 12 mid - 6am. Still cheaper than Singapore's. Hehe ... The environment is much better and much "grovier" .

Sang alot of songs .. took turns to sing. Mainly individual performance. A bunch of great singing company .

Sang till 6am , set off for home. Then both me n roomie went for breakfast. Think it's the earliest breakfast i had over here . Imagine 6.30am walked ard the street, people are already jogging , going for breakfasts over here ? Makes me feel ashamed sia ~~~

Had fried dough (ie. You Tiao) , fried dumpling ("Shen Jian") , Soy Bean and an egg. Should have go for breakfast often .. Then set off home to pack things -wanted to send some winter clothes , gifts and food back home. Me with roomie , both holding on to big bags , on a small scaled Tu Tu , drove off to the post office which opens at 8am. Spent an hour ther, packing things into the boxes provided and sealed off ourselves. My parcel weigh 9334 g and costs me 434rmb to send back Singapore.

My mum n sis coming next week to visit me. Gng to bring them ard shanghai and of course SHOPPING ... haha

shall update again ...

Excreting brain juice for REPORT , essays and WORK ! wanna die of exhaustion soon .....

SpiDey is Great !

Woohoo.. Finally can watch Spiderman 3.

After work on Tue, set off to People Square station with roomie. Went to buy the movie tics @ Peace Cinema juz beside Raffles City. Tic costs 50rmb (every Tue and Wed half price). Went to the MegaBites at the top storey of Raffles city to have our dinner.

I had this chicken curry rice. Not bad-tasting but still feel that Singapore's curry is the best!Missed the yummy curry back home ~~~

Then we walked ard seeking for sweet stuffs to pamper our mouths ... Saw this ice-cream stall at the basement named "Coldstone creamery". This stall was voted one of the recommended stall in raffles city. So we tried out. One classic ice-cream cost 27rmb and with this waffle biskuit basket , addition 1rmb. The staff after taking the ice-cream flavours , he put in brownies, hazelnuts and "stirred-fried" on the spot. i was asked to witness the process. Juz by looking at the appearance of the ice-cream, i could tell it's gng to taste heavenly. Haha ...

We went straight to the comfortable sofa seats and sunk down on our ice-creams. ~~~~Shiok was the word ! Nvr tasted such nice ice-cream before. The ice-cream was so different , got tt elastic feel but melts in the mouth . The waffle biskuit embracing the ice-cream was so crispy and crunchy. Great combination ... Waa.. could not resist myself to try tt out again ! haha..

Well, about the cinema we went to , we chose the Imax theatre. Seated at the 3rd row, but the whole experience wasnt bad. As the screen was big-sized screen and with extended curvature. The sound system was great and the seat quite comfortable. Din waste the money. But of course , it was the movie tat was NICE ! Loved the show ... cheers for Spidey !

lol... well lately been rather busy with work and lots of reports to be handed in soon ~~~ stress level raising. Ytd went to this meeting @ this Environmental Assessment centre with roomie. Wore formal attire for the first time here. At first, i tot i only have to sit down ther and listen to the presentations but was shocked when the prof there asked me to sit in the centre so that i can help them translate when the caucasians asked questions. The most challenging experience i ever had. The worst came in the afternoon session when i totally had to sit right besides the caucasians and did full translation job (ie. when the director said something, i have to translate straight into Eng and transmit the info the caucasians.) OMg..think i did a bad job. I shall brush up my english skills .... ***DETERMINED !

Okay .. gng to do my translation job again...see u

p/s: Dunno what to write for my 3000 words cheena chinese essay (2 essays somemore) .. HELP

eXplOrinG Spree

Yoohoo...

After resting over the weekends after the May holiday trips , roomie n i set off on monday to tour Shanghai Urban Planning Museum situated along People Square Avenue. The tics costed 40rmb but with student card entitled to 50% discount , but i was forgetful enuff to forgot to bring my card out and ended paying the full price.

There are a total of 5 levels in the building. The overall outer appearance of this building has the british colony feel. On the ground level entrance , once i entered, i was greeted with this "egypt" style gold building model structure spinning slowly in front of me. Juz besides it, was this mini shanghai building structure models.

Next, i went up to this sub-level of first level , and was introduced to Shanghai historic story and watched a short video on the transformation of Shanghai from a small fishing village to this metropolitian city. On the 2nd level , was this oil painting enhibitions, both roomie n i skipped that part. Went up straight to the 3rd level, where the bigger scale Shanghai building structure is located. It stands in the middle of the level , occupying a humogous space. I was trying to look out for my flat , but could not find as the whole model was too big enuff , it's like looking for a needle in the hay. At the sides , there are enhibits on the history of Shanghai. On the 4th level, there are more exhibits on eco-shanghai , transport lines , Pudong airport , water/waste distribution system, future plans etc. We skipped the 5th level as it is a cafe.

After a day tour, i was more educated on Shanghai and its history. Was quite amazed at its transformation. When we were juz abt to leave the building, i saw this sign "1930 Shanghai" and decided to try our luck in exploring the basement. Walked down this "metal" stairs , and was lucky enuff to find this stretch of old shanghai street-like place. The decor was similar to Shanghai in 1930s. This street is lined with cafes along its sides.

Planned to watch spiderman 3 with roomie after the urban planning trip, but blurie me forgot to bring the student card and so we decided to give up this idea and went to have lunch @Raffles City. We chose SUKiYaki sushi as we got the cravings for the ramen. Ate a variety of sushis, shared a bowl of char siew ramen and ordered pumpkin tempuras. Spent like 103 rmb. But enjoyed the meal.

After this hearty meal, we decided to walk to Jing An Si, where our housemates said they found this shopping street behind the Jiu Guang shopping centre. Along the way, we walked past this 石门一路and there was this food street where i got my ice blended mango drink. At least the stall uses real mango flesh. Continued walking and saw this Grand Cathedrale @ West Nanjing Road. Roomie wanted to take a pic but we could not find a nice spot to shoot the image so gave up the idea. After 40 mins, we reached the shopping street.

The shoppping street is cladded with small stalls selling fashion. The price is much neg and almost like those in 7 pu. Shopped ard eagerly till ard 7pm, when most stalls were packing u, then we left the place.

Had a tiring day ... but was looking forward to watch Spiderman 3 tmr...

May Holiday Trips (29th Apr-4th May) - Part 2: Jiang Nan - Lin An tour

ON the 3rd of May, me n roomie set off to our first trip by tour in Shanghai to Jiang Nan - Lin An. At first we thought that the place we gng to is within Hang Zhou area but we were wrong. It's juz near Hang Zhou but actually it's in Zhe Jiang province - Jiang Nan.

Thruout the 2 days tour , we went to 4 main attractions - of course , most are waterfalls and bamboo forests as these are the main reasons why we chose this package.

Except for the tourguide who always screwed up , enjoyed the 2 days tour thoroughly.
Had alot of local food : mostly 野味 like chicken , bamboo shoots etc.

Here are the itineary (include安吉&临安 province):

1. 竹林 & 大竹海

- Saw all sorts of Bamboo species
-The different things made by bamboo
- was overwhlemed by the whole forests of bamboos... sense of nearness to nature . Love the big green sight

2. 藏龙百瀑

- climbed at least an hr
- different names of waterfall of waterfall could be seen within 1m of sight, could even feel the clear, fresh water. Saw people washing their legs in the water .... OMG !
- 落差为60多米的“长龙飞瀑” - tt's the main waterfall.
(***this is the main waterfall - made me n roomie climbed all the way up)

- Sweat alot, like sauna-ing.

3. 双溪流-江南第一漂
- At entrance , took the bull carridge . Saw how the bulls are being "tortued" by the driver.

-Tried my first time bamboo rafting , sitting on the bamboo bench on the bamboo raft, had the refreshing and thrilling feel. Water seeping thru the bamboos.

- went thru 2 small "slides" down mini waterfalls
- drifted thru the whole stream for 40mins
- Tried Horse-riding here
-Ate the bamboo rice

4. 山沟沟 (茅唐&汤坑)

-another waterfall attractions (though nicer than the previous attraction)
- Climbed for at least 3hrs
- various waterfalls
- Swings made between bamboos trees

(Doesn't this look like a APE ??? It is one of the main attraction .... )

(This is taken at a old army house during the war periods)

Hotel : 临安大剧院宾馆

Overall , had a tiring but enjoyable trip. Legs gng to wobble soon. Planning to have a gd rest before work starts on Tue.

May Holiday Trips (29th Apr-4th May) - Part I: Suzhou and Shanghai tour

My May holiday started from the Last Sunday of April (29th) when i set off to Suzhou with roomie - was quite last minute decision , cos on Sat we went to the Coach terminal to buy the coach tics thinking if there are still seats, we would go. Best thing is that Yanni in suzhou had managed to help us got return tics on Tue by coach.

Sunday , we took the 6.40am coach . The bus was quite vacant . Whole journey took about 1.5 hrs. After we reached , took a cab to Yanni's hostel at Suzhou University (costed abt 16rmb). Saw nice scenery along the way. Discovered that in Suzhou, most houses are built in low levels ie. only short storey with those ancient designs. The first attraction we went to was 拙政园 - a well-known tourist attraction. The tic costed 70rmb (but we bought our tics @ 60rmb as we shared the numbers with another grp). The disappointing thing was that it rained. And we got to take pics with umbreallas. Overall the place was awesome. Saw alot of historical trails - nice gardens , bridges etc and bonsai etc. Moreover , caught a half hr opera show. *** The pics shall depict better. We toured the place in 3.5 hrs.

After which, Yanni brought us walk to 观前街- a street famous for shopping. Have all brands and major shopping branches. Entertainments like arcades and KTV can also be found here. Ended the day early. Slept in Shuqing's bunk bed - those double decker bed (juz a single size bed) but managed to squeeze two bodies.

The next day went to have breakfast at a wanton stall outside the campus. This stall sells all sorts of dumpling with various fillings. I had the蘑菇鲜肉饺子 (10 big sized dumplings for 7rmb) , ate until my stomache bloated. Then met Allan, Yanni's friend, he joined us to tour Suzhou. along the way to 观前街 ,Allan introduced us to have this bubble tea named COCO - a taiwan brand. We walked past 十全街 which is also a shopping street. At 观前街, we walked ard and toured this temple street with local handicrafts.

(***Tis uncle is v enthu in introducing us his handicraft ... )

Then we settled for KTV session. The KTV place have better decor than SIngapore's and it's cheap. Like 38 rmb for 3 hrs with a medium room. Enjoyed the singing session. After which, Allan brought us to this chinese restaurant which is famous in Suzhou named 洋洋. The sweet sour pork rib tasted heavenly and i loved the Crispy Tou fu too.

The very next day (tue), Set off to the coach station and boarded the 6.30am coach while Yanni took the railway train to Shanghai. Met Yanni and her 2 friends-xiuhui & jing yuan at East Nanjing road station at ard 8am. Brought her first destination to 七铺 road - a shopping paradise for us ! Haha ... can you imagine that we spent 6.5 hrs ther???? haa... yanni had the most catch amongst us. After the shopping spree, took a bus and set off to Old Shanghai street. Din walked long here as everybodi was carrying alot of stuffs and were tired. Brought them to people square to have STEAK KING . then we walked off to THE BUND. as it was the 1st May(Labor day), thewhole street to the bund was flooded with people, even cars had to give way to pedestrians. We managed to squeezed thru the crowd and arrived at the 外滩 ther to enjoy the breeze and the magnificient view of the oriental pearl tower.

Ard 9 plus, we set off for home. the very next day, me n roomie brought them to a sports warehouse named "the decalthon" located at Long Yang road. Bought quite some sportswear.
set off from home to have lunch at Coco Curryhouse @Jing An Si station. the meal cost abt 40rmb, missed the curry in Singapore.

Sent them off at 3.40pm. roomie n i went home to have a short rest before the next trip.
