In The ProCess Of Learning

Yo yo .. a little updates for last week...

On friday , i ponned school to go on a company excursion to see what my new company - Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences (SAES) have done on the ecoloical engineering aspect.

Went to school earli in the mrng and set off with a batch of 18 students to the first destination - MENG QING YUAN at CAO BAO road. The "tour guide" is my current supervisor : Prof Lee Xiao Ping. He is also the Vice-director of the company. First impression of Meng Qing Yuan was that it was a tourist ground but i was very wrong.

The garden was actually a neighbourhood park where old people , kids come to take walks and relax. The whole pond was built in a such way that water from the Su Zhou river was partially "clean-up" through the water system before being return back to the river. Was amazed to actually see the whole set-up and understand the mechanisms involved from the prof. This garden was actually done up using Prof Lee's concepts.

The next destination was to go visit some streams at the airport town. The sides of these streams were planted with "bamboo" type plants to intercept small particles and also to beautify the environment.

We had lunch at this seafood restaurant near a harbour. Had a fulfilling lunch .

The last destination , we were brought to see a live example of wetlands. Overall , had an idea of what ecological engr is about . Actually , before i entered NTU, had wanted to take this field but NTU did not have the course. Sad =( haiz....

Then on sunday , went to this Brazil Steak House at Jing An Si road to have brazilian bbq lunch buffet . It's like 55 rmb/pax. This luxurious lunch was to "celebrate" Qiaoli's birthday in advance. Well juz an excuse for us to have good meals =P Went with Peter , Alvin , Yuan Shan , Whye heng and 1601 family (except Meixian cos she was sick) . Well ... the restaurant provides beef with different cooking tastes. Besides, also had pork , lamb meats , sausages , fries , salads , cakes , desserts , pastas etc. Had a super heavy lunch .

As for Monday and Todae, i attended a seminar held by my company on soil contamination and remediation . Heard several presentations by different speakers from diff countries and fields. ONe of the guest speaker is from UK university , Prof David Lerner. He gave pretty interesting presentations on land contamination& risk assessments . Learnt pretty much knowledge on the different contamination situations in UK and China. Well.. besides, can write something in my GIP report . Hehehe ...
